Description: The third round of the 2014 World Cup season is the first race that counts towards the Nation rankings leading up to the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. But not only that made this race an important one. For lots of riders the race is their last chance to qualify for the 2014 UCI BMX World Championships in Rotterdam, Netherlands in 5 weeks time.

120 riders started in the Men class with only 48 spots available for tomorrow's World Cup race. The qualifying motos showed close racing. Two time Olympic Gold medalist Maris Strombergs (LAT) showed he can still ride a supercross lap by winning all three races. Bodi Turner (AUS) and Nic Long (USA) managed to do the same which made them the top three qualifiers for tomorrow's race. 16 Pre Qualified riders rode the Time Trials final on the tricky track in a single lap. Edzus Treimanis (LAT) set a time under 38 seconds early on. It ended up being the fastest time set in the final because no other rider managed to race a lap under 38 seconds. Edzus commented: "My lap actually wasn't that smooth, but it was fast. I did a very good first straight and carried the momentum around the track." The rider from Latvia is looking forward to tomorrow (saturday)'s race: "The track is fun but we'll have to see how it turns out tomorrow when we get to ride it with 8 guys at the same time."

Top rider in the Women class to qualify for saturday's race is Lauren Reynolds who was the only one to wins all three qualifying motos. Fellow Australian Caroline Buchanan won the Time Trial finals with ease. Her laptime of 31.952 seconds was a second faster than second place finisher Felicia Stancil (USA). Brooke Crain (USA) finished third. Buchanan was tired after the lap but ready to give some feedback: "The track is very tricky with all the hips, wooden take-offs and turns. Sometimes you have to go slower to go faster and this is definitely a track like that."

Saturday's racing will be exciting with the fastest riders in the world taking on the interesting track at the Mellowpark facility in Berlin, Germany.
