This weekend Madrid will once again host the first round of the season’s UCI BMX Supercross World Cup presented by Swatch

More than 170 Elite riders (men and women) from 25 countries will compete in the Spanish capital on March 26th and 27th. The Madrid round of the World Cup series is the first of five on the 2010 calendar. All the races are the main qualifying events for the 2012 London Olympic Games and feature a total prize money of €100’000.

The action this weekend will take place in the Palacio de Deportes, a magnificent indoor arena where 3000m3 dirt has been brought in to build the spectacular BMX Supercross track.

This weekend will be the first time this year that all the Elite riders will confront each other. Over the winter a number of them raced in North America and Sam Willoughby (AUS), last year’s overall men's series winner, still looks like the man to beat. In the ABA Winter Nationals in Phoenix, Arizona on March 5th and 6th the current UCI Juniors World Champion was again a strong performer.

In the women's competition Shanaze Reade (GBR) is back on the bike and also looked strong in the Phoenix mud. Reade will give last year’s Supercross winner Laetitia Le Corguillé (FRA) a run for her money in 2010.

A season preview video will get you up to date in a few minutes.

For fans who cannot be present in Madrid, each round of the 2010 World Cup series will be web streamed live. Watch freecaster.tv on Saturday 27th March. Last year, over 600,000 viewers headed over to freecaster.tv to view the exciting format of UCI BMX Supercross race action, as well as watch the UCI BMX World Championships. On top of that all our European fans can also tune into Eurosport 2.

After Madrid, the Supercross World Cup series will move to:

Copenhagen, Denmark (May 7th and 8th),
Chula Vista, USA, (September 17th and 18th),
Fréjus, France (October 8th and 9th),
Monaco (October 15th and 16th) to be confirmed.

The UCI World Championships will be held in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, from July 29th to August 1st.
