UCI BMX Opens San Jose Supercross race To "Non Qualified" Riders

Due to a high interest from non-qualified riders to participate in the UCI BMX Supercross in San José (USA), the UCI has decided to add a possibility for non-qualified riders to register on site (HP Pavillon, San José) on Wednesday 7 September 2005, if pre-registered qualified riders are less than 75.

The UCI BMX has set the following Supercross race classes & criteria’s for a combined class for Elite Men & Junior Men world wide, that are 17 Years and older.

*Riders must carry an international license issued by their National Federation. (US riders shall carry a NBL license, age determination according to Section X, paragraph A.1. and B.1. of the 2005 UCI BMX Rule Book).

*For the 1st round of the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup (Aigle, Switzerland), the Time Trials Qualification is open to all eligible riders (as mentioned above).

*For the 2nd round of the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup (San José, CA USA), the Time Trials Qualification are only open and eligible for

1. Elite Men/Junior Men that have that have scored UCI ranking points (minimum 1 point) during the 2004/2005 ranking season

2. All riders that have competed in previous editions of the UCI BMX Supercross.

3. The top 10 ranked riders in the Super Class points standing of the NBL National Series (after South Park, July 3).

In case the number of pre-registered qualified riders is less than 75, non-qualified riders can register on-site Wednesday 7 September 2005, to fill the quota of 75 riders.

The first Round of the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup series was won by The Netherland's, Robert de Wilde (Staats/TLD), June 18 & 19 at the UCI World Cycling Center in Aigle, Switzerland. Robert, who went on to take home a strong Third Place at the UCI BMX World Championships in Paris, France AND won the UCI BMX World Ranking Points Title, is one of the favorites to win the SX race in San Jose. The UCI BMX Supercross/San Jose race will be held, September 8 & 9 at the H.P. Pavilion as part of the Dew Action Sports tour, and will be broadcast on NBC Television in the United States.
